Beam me up!

I’ve landed (drove into actually) in Austin. Last night I got in and stayed with Dave Bolch who is our only US based Soigneur. We went to my favorite
BBQ joint and relaxed and caught up on things. When I first got into this line of work, I actually enjoyed driving across country. It was fun seeing some sights I’d never see on my own. It was also a time for me to reflect on the race we just did and also get organized (mental lists) for the next event. This year will mark my 12th season as a pro mechanic. I would never imagined making it this far or this long. In the past 11 seasons, I’d guess to have driven more than 250,000 miles. I’m not sure driving is that enjoyable anymore. I don’t hate it. It is just not that cool. I wish I could say “Scotty beam me up” (to the next race). But alas, I’m ultimately responsible for the truck and equipment so I am not allowed that luxury.
